What is 'copy' and 'copy writing'? Answer. Copy is media or print jargon for material that is suitable for publication. Good copy writing is the art of taking the mundane or ordinary and while retaining all of the relevant information, making the article clear and interesting for the reader.

Many companies and organisations use their technical people to write features and articles. These employees are invariably well educated and knowledgeable experts in their field, but this does not mean they can produce easy-to-read informative copy.

Journalists are also experts in their subject matter, excellent researchers and fact finders, but newspapers and magazines employ sub-editors to ensure that their journalists' copy reads well (and is also not defaming or libellous).
